Hide unsightly pipes with a built-in
This homeowner’s mud room had an unsightly shelf unit cobbled together from 2x4’s and plywood. Add a few poor paint jobs and it was badly in need of improvement.
The extra rail across the back provides a place to attach hooks for coats. Cubbies below are sized for baskets to hold small items like hats and gloves.
The section to the left encloses the electrical panels and water shut-off valve. The doors are easily opened for quick access to these important items. We designed the left section to be easily removed by removing a few screws in the event that significant repairs are necessary to these items.
An oak plywood seat, stained with chestnut stain by Varathane makes a nice contrast to the satin white casework.
Before - the shelves created a hazard with items placed in front of the electrical panels.
Before - the rough plywood and framing lumber construction was a coarser finish than the homeowner desired.
